The roots of my personal charity work were firmly planted in the late 1980’s after having moved from a comfortable life in the UK to India, to the state of Jammu & Kashmir for a few years where I witnessed the effects of poverty and deprivation first hand.
After returning back to the UK, my husband and I moved to Uganda in the mid 90’s where I volunteered at orphanages in and around Kampala alongside Dr. Ian Clarke, a Christian missionary. I also convinced my husband, who was in the property business, to conduct repairs at many of the poorly maintained orphanage facilities in and around the city.
Our affiliation with Dr Clark started a Trust Foundation which he later developed into a conglomerate of health-related clinics and a major hospital headquartered in Kampala, known as the International Medical Group (IMG) Uganda.
My husband’s business necessitated a move to neighboring Tanzania in the late 90’s where my involvement with the charity organizations grew even more. Here in Tanzania, my main aim is to keep helping orphanages, as I am passionate about giving
children a brighter future. However, I have been helping at the Cancer Research Hospital in the city, when time permits, distributing food and medication and I also work with the physically challenged and the underprivileged communities in and around Dar es Salaam.
Whilst focusing on providing various orphanages with food, school bags, uniforms/shoes, etc. I’ve also supplied walking aids to the disabled, in the form of aluminum adjustable
walking sticks and zimmer
frames, which were provided by the Bilal Muslim Mission in the UK and flown in and released by me. These were distributed with the help of the Lions Club, in Dar es Salaam, as well as by partnering with the Desk & Chair Foundation in Mwanza.
With the tireless help of a very close friend, our family has now set up an NGO registered as the Mohamed Punjani Foundation (The MPF).
Currently, we are helping to build an orphanage for 65 children to relocate them from a poorly accommodated 4 bed-roomed house
in Sinza to a purpose built 16 bed-roomed, self-sustaining facility in Chanika, on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam. The African Reflections Foundation (ARF) has also played a big part, by donating a state of the art Solar Powered Deep Water Well System, to encourage the orphanage’s self-sustainability.
In the future we would like to help the elderly in Tanzania, as I have noticed there is drastically insufficient housing and care facilities to cater for them and other destitute people. My dream is to alleviate poverty and suffering wherever I can and with the help of our foundation, the MPF, we will use our resources to the best of our ability to achieve just that!
Our aim is to undertake these charitable activities as much as we can through use of our own resources and to channel all the funds we receive through donations without deducting ANY amount for administration costs – we pay for these costs ourselves, ensuring funds received go DIRECTLY towards their intended cause without any deductions whatsoever.
*** We constantly need help and support from all – individuals or organizations – large or small. We welcome help in cash or kind!
ALL DONATIONS RECEIVED SPENT 100% ON CAUSE – ZERO ADMIN COSTS***
